Medu Bookstore — the beloved African American bookstore in Atlanta’s Greenbriar Mall — is closing after 35 years as its owner, Nia Damali, prepares to retire at the end of March.
For more than three decades Medu has been more than a store — it was a cultural hub where Black authors, community members and history lovers gathered, hosted signings with influential figures and built community around literature and shared stories.

An investigation shows Georgia’s special education system failed a Black child who was placed in a program meant to help students with emotional and behavioral needs but instead stalled his progress and deprived him of necessary support.
The Atlanta Journal‑Constitution found the state’s GNETS program has become uneven, hard to exit and in some cases harmful, forcing families to fight in court to get better educational services for their children.
